Research Challenge

The Research Challenge program, in partnership with Providence Research (PH) and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), targets point-of-care nursing and allied staff, and provides small, micro grants to qualified projects. The focus of these grants is on clinical or practice-oriented projects that directly impact patient care related to organ donation or transplant medicine.

Astellas ODTRF Clinician Research Grant

In 2015, Astellas Pharma Canada and the Organ Donation and Transplant Research Foundation of BC (formally Transplant Research Foundation of BC) partnered to create a two-year research funding program – the Astellas/Transplant Research Foundation of BC Clinical Research Grant Program. Four exciting projects were funded through this program, leading to groundbreaking advancements in care for patients and donors.

Addison Pediatric Project

Children are not little adults, yet much of their pre and post transplant care is based upon clinical trials and studies conducted on adult participants. That is why it is important to encourage and support transplant research that focuses on our youngest patients, that is why the Addison Pediatric Project was created.

Quotes

I rely on daily immunosuppressants, these come with many side effects, including a weakened overall immune system, risk of organ damage, diabetes and cancer risks. These risks frequently run through my mind. I want to see my son and daughter grow up.

Quotes

I am extremely grateful for all the researchers and research that has helped transplant kids like me live longer, better lives. For example, I have recently been able to get vaccinated for chicken pox, something I was told for years was not safe for transplant patients. Thank you, science!
